Venison Potato Soup

We don’t buy meat from the store but every time I make a meal for others they are always surprised it’s wild game, so I figured I’d share one of our favorite recipes.

Venison Potato Soup

  • 1 pound of venison (I’ve made this with deer, elk, & antelope)
  • Minced garlic & onion
  • Salt & pepper
  • Fresh basil
  • 4 cups of broth
  • 6 cups of potatoes
  • Peeled and shredded carrots
  1. Brown 1 lb of ground venison in a large multi pot.
  2. Add Salt and Pepper
  3. After the ground meat is browned and cooked add four cups of broth of your choice. Beef broth preferred.
  4. Add six cups of diced yellow golden potatoes.
  5. Add a cup of shredded carrots
  6. Add Minced Garlic and onion
  7. Add three fresh basil leaves
  8. Cook until potatoes and carrots are soft.
  9. In a separate small sauce pan create gravy. Add 1 1/2 cups of milk, 3 tbsp of flour. Mix until a thick gravy consistency.
  10. Add gravy to the soup in the large pot and stir together.

Serve in soup bowl or large mug with handle. Enjoy!
