We don’t buy meat from the store but every time I make a meal for others they are always surprised it’s wild game, so I figured I’d share one of our favorite recipes.
Venison Potato Soup
- 1 pound of venison (I’ve made this with deer, elk, & antelope)
- Minced garlic & onion
- Salt & pepper
- Fresh basil
- 4 cups of broth
- 6 cups of potatoes
- Peeled and shredded carrots
- Brown 1 lb of ground venison in a large multi pot.
- Add Salt and Pepper
- After the ground meat is browned and cooked add four cups of broth of your choice. Beef broth preferred.
- Add six cups of diced yellow golden potatoes.
- Add a cup of shredded carrots
- Add Minced Garlic and onion
- Add three fresh basil leaves
- Cook until potatoes and carrots are soft.
- In a separate small sauce pan create gravy. Add 1 1/2 cups of milk, 3 tbsp of flour. Mix until a thick gravy consistency.
- Add gravy to the soup in the large pot and stir together.
Serve in soup bowl or large mug with handle. Enjoy!
